Chapter 14 Taking a Bath

Rented apartment.

"Damn it! I will definitely go back!"

Thinking about how he was almost killed by the aftermath of the battle between two nearly level-100 magical creatures.

After returning to the real world, Mu An couldn't help but make a harsh vow.

Of course.

He hadn't forgotten his employee, Nina, and had brought her along to the real world as well.

Having promised room and board, as a 'conscientious' boss, Mu An wouldn't break his word.

Besides, if he really left this girl alone in that dangerous place, he probably wouldn't even have the chance to collect her corpse the next time he went back.

That would mean losing a stable daily source of gold coins and skill proficiency!

"Hey, Boss, is this the other world where you live?"

Being a newcomer, Nina cautiously looked around.

In the cramped room, there were many things she had never heard of or seen before.

On the walnut-colored desk sat an incomprehensible alchemy tool with a bunch of square buttons she couldn't understand, and next to it was a huge cabinet in shades of gray and white, gray and white alternating, creating a visually pleasing impact.

The walls were as white as snow falling on the ground in winter, and the floor was paved with square, reflective stone tiles.

The bed was shockingly large; Nina felt that five or six of her could easily sleep on it!

The mattress felt cool to the touch; it must be very comfortable to sleep on during the summer, right?

There were also a bunch of strange things she had no idea about, and none of them seemed to have even a hint of magic fluctuation.

"Yeah, the place is small, you'll have to make do for now."

With a click, Mu An turned on the room's light.

He tidied things up a bit and made room for the girl to sit.

Because the room was quite small.

Aside from the ergonomic chair he had specially purchased for his part-time writing work, the only other place to sit was the bed.

He pulled back the curtains and opened the window by the bed, as well as the floor-to-ceiling glass door to the balcony.

After the air began to circulate, the summer night breeze blew in slowly, carrying away some of the stifling heat that had accumulated in the room during the summer day.

Nina was staring wide-eyed, looking up at the round light attached to the ceiling, her expression one of utter shock.

She couldn't feel even the slightest bit of magic fluctuation from it!

In her limited understanding, the brightest light the girl had ever seen was the expensive sheep-oil lamp held by some traveling merchants.

But now, that record seemed to have been broken.

"Not going to sit down?"

Mu An asked casually.

Nina stood to the side, subconsciously wiping her small hands on her clothes, appearing somewhat embarrassed and at a loss.

She looked down at her dirty clothes and the cheap shoes with holes at the toes.

She felt as if she were completely out of place in this clean environment, and an invisible sense of inferiority welled up within her.

"No... it's okay, it wouldn't be good if I accidentally dirtied your things, Boss..."

Mu An didn't say much; he simply pressed on the girl's shoulders, making her sit in his ergonomic chair.

"Are you hungry? I can get you something to eat first."

"I'm not hungry..."

Nina shook her head, not wanting to trouble Mu An.

But her uncooperative stomach let out an ill-timed protest, and the more she tried to suppress it, the more intense it became.

Rumble—

For a moment, the atmosphere seemed a bit awkward.

Especially for Nina.

She felt her face burning up.

[How embarrassing! This is just too embarrassing!!]

If this weren't a special tiled floor, the girl might have wanted to dig a deep hole with her toes.

And then hide in it forever and never come out.

"Wait here, I'll get you an extra meal."

Mu An didn't find it strange at all.

After fighting for so long and expending so much energy, it was only natural to feel hungry.

Besides, he hadn't forgotten his previous promise of an 'extra meal' to her.

Mu An skillfully plugged in the electric kettle to boil water, preparing to make some Master Kong instant noodles.

During this, he weighed it carefully and decided to painfully add a braised egg to Nina's portion of instant noodles.

Just say if that counts as an extra meal!

But soon, Mu An realized that he was now a man with a Golden Finger, and it seemed he wouldn't be short of money in the future.

"Order takeout! Must order takeout and have a huge feast!"

Mu An readily took out his phone, opened the Meituan app, and frantically started ordering.

Considering that Nina had just arrived in this world and might not know what was good, he took the initiative and ordered her some food that was almost guaranteed to be safe.

At this moment, Nina also quietly walked over.

She wanted to reach out and tug on Mu An's sleeve, but thinking about her slightly dirty hands, she quietly pulled back.

The girl was somewhat uneasy and spoke cautiously.

"Um..."

"Don't worry, we might have to eat instant noodles first; the big meal will arrive later."

"It's not about the food. I wanted to ask if there's a place to take a bath here? If not, even a little bit of water is fine, I can just wipe my face!"

These words made Mu An, who was 'engrossed' in ordering takeout, raise an eyebrow.

He looked at Nina, who was clearly a bit reserved, took her by the wrist, walked towards the bathroom, and asked curiously.

"Is water very precious over where you are?"

"Yes, especially in the Underground Labyrinth, where many water sources have powerful magical creatures lurking."

Nina let Mu An lead her, nodding seriously.

Water is the source of life.

People need water, and magical creatures naturally need water too.

When it comes to fetching water, people in the demi-human settlement where she lived died every year for this very reason.

It could be said that taking a clean bath was almost something many demi-humans dared not even dream of.

"This thing is called a faucet; just lift this part up slightly, and water will come out."

"The thing hanging on the wall is a water heater. If you want to take a cold shower, just turn that switch to the right."

"Then lift it slightly outward, and this thing (shower head) will automatically release water."

"If you want a hot shower, turn it to the left, and it's the same operation."

"However, I don't have the habit of keeping the water heater powered on all the time, so if you really want a hot shower, you might need to wait for it to heat up for a while."

"The most important thing is, after the water is heated, remember to turn off this switch before taking a shower to avoid electric leakage..."

Mu An explained these daily life common sense points to Nina in detail and earnestly.

Nina listened very carefully as well.

Moreover, her comprehension was quite good, and she immediately remembered the usage methods and precautions Mu An had explained.

Under the man's guidance, she even cautiously tried it herself.

Gently lifting the switch, she watched as this object called a 'faucet' suddenly released water full of white bubbles.

Nina placed her small hand underneath and gently cupped the incomparably clear water.

It was clearer than any water she had ever seen before!

Most importantly, obtaining this water didn't require paying the price of a life; all it required was gently lifting this switch.
