28: Chapter 28 Bang, bang, bang~~

After returning to the rental apartment, Lu Siye took the "Dragon-Elephant Prajna Art" out of the System Space and placed it on the table, intending to enhance it to the fourth level.

Placing his hand on the Cultivation Technique, Lu Siye silently chanted to enhance it.

"Ding~ This enhancement requires 2,000 Fear Points. Host's Fear Points are insufficient. Enhancement failed!" The System's cold, ruthless voice rang in his ears.

"Damn it, the third level only needed 400 points, but the fourth level requires 2,000? System, are you a profiteer?" Lu Siye couldn't help but retort.

He was still over 500 Fear Points short; it seemed he would have to fleece someone.

Putting the Cultivation Technique away, Lu Siye took out his phone and clicked on the website link Chen Feiguang had sent. His phone screen flashed, revealing what looked like a fairly legitimate website.

Although it looked legitimate, it was actually a ghost website. Lu Siye browsed through it and discovered that the entire site only offered welfare vouchers of varying durations to choose from.

After some consideration, Lu Siye decided to buy a ten-year welfare voucher first to test the waters.

Of course, before buying it, he reported it to the Evil Suppression Bureau to avoid having his account frozen after the funds arrived.

After turning off his phone, Lu Siye got on the floor and assumed the 27 Cultivation poses from the first three levels, beginning to continue strengthening his control over the Yang Qi within his body.

...

"Ah~ I can finally get off work!" In Furniture City, Zhuang Xiaoman glanced at the time on her phone, stretched, and said happily.

"Ahhh! I'm so jealous! Sister Xiaoman, today you got a commission, added a handsome guy's contact info, and even got to leave early. I'm so envious I'm about to fall apart."

A baby-faced colleague grabbed Zhuang Xiaoman's arm and pouted.

Mentioning a handsome guy reminded Zhuang Xiaoman of that masculine, handsome face, and her face instantly flushed with shyness.

"Oh! I just got lucky. When you make a sale, you can also confidently ask the supervisor to leave early!"

Zhuang Xiaoman patted her head and pulled her hand away.

"Wuwuwu~ I've only been interning for less than a month; it's not that easy to make a sale!" the baby-faced colleague said, dejected.

"You have to believe in yourself. You can do it, fighting!" After packing up her personal belongings, Zhuang Xiaoman made a fist of encouragement to her colleague.

"I'm leaving now, bye-bye!"

"Mm-hmm, goodbye Sister Xiaoman!" the baby-faced colleague waved.

After walking out of Furniture City, Zhuang Xiaoman arrived at her electric scooter.

She took out her phone and, looking at Lu Siye who hadn't sent a message all day, couldn't help but draft a message and send it.

'I'm off work! (Smile)'

She waited for a while, and seeing that Lu Siye didn't reply, she sat on her electric scooter, feeling a bit disappointed.

Just as she was about to leave, her phone notification rang. It was that handsome guy replying!

'Good! Be safe, and remember to take paths with lots of people.'

He's worried about my safety!

Looking at this message, Zhuang Xiaoman's heart raced, and a flush appeared on her face. She felt as though the exhaustion from the whole day's work had almost completely dissipated.

'Mm-hmm! (Cat nodding.jpg)'

After sending the message, Zhuang Xiaoman had a smile on her lips as she drove her electric scooter in the direction of her rental apartment.

It was past nine at night, and there were still quite a few vehicles and pedestrians on the road.

The bright streetlights and the sound of cars whizzing by gave her a full sense of security. Humming an unknown tune, Zhuang Xiaoman turned into an intersection.

As she drove, she felt like something wasn't quite right.

The surrounding pedestrians and vehicles had disappeared at some point. The shops on both sides of the street were tightly shut, and the originally bright streetlights had become dim, flickering from time to time.

A cold wind blew, and Zhuang Xiaoman couldn't help but shiver. She rubbed the goosebumps on her arms, pressed the brake, and stopped under a streetlight, looking around with some fear.

At this moment, she suddenly remembered what Lu Siye had said to her during the day.

"It hasn't been very peaceful at night recently. Try to get off work early, and when you go back, try to take paths with lots of people."

Thinking of this, a chill crept up her back.

"Don't scare yourself, Zhuang Xiaoman. There's no such thing as ghosts in this world. We must believe in science!" Zhuang Xiaoman raised her hand and patted her cheeks, comforting herself.

Suddenly!

With a loud bang, a streetlamp ahead suddenly sparked, instantly extinguished, and the road ahead plunged into darkness.

Woo-woo~~

At the same time, a strong wind blew from an alley by the road, making an eerie whistling sound.

"Ah! I'm not taking this road anymore!" Zhuang Xiaoman was startled, her whole body trembling uncontrollably, her voice choked with sobs.

She hurriedly turned the scooter around, pushed it to its top speed, and headed back the way she came.

"Amitabha, Buddha bless me! Infinite Life Heavenly Venerable, Dao Ancestor bless me! Jesus bless me..." Watching the shops constantly retreating beside her, Zhuang Xiaoman couldn't help but mutter to herself.

Suddenly, she saw two little boys run out from an alley by the road ahead, carrying something round like a ball in their hands.

Zhuang Xiaoman instinctively felt that something was wrong. Why would children be playing at the mouth of a pitch-black alley in the middle of the night?

The children at the alley entrance seemed to have noticed Zhuang Xiaoman, the only pedestrian on the road. The two stopped hurriedly, glanced at her timidly, and then ran back into the alley.

Zhuang Xiaoman breathed a sigh of relief. Seeing them run from a stranger, it seemed those two children were probably fine.

The electric scooter continued forward, and as she passed the alley entrance, she couldn't help but glance inside.

The entire alley was pitch black, without a single ray of light. Chills of wind blew out from inside from time to time, like a passage to the abyss, giving one an inexplicable sense of horror.

Could those two children be in any danger in an alley like that?

Zhuang Xiaoman swallowed, unable to stop worrying about the two children.

After hesitating for a while, she got off her electric scooter, took her phone out of her pocket, turned on the flashlight mode, and walked toward the alley.

"Ah!"

Just as she was about to step into the alley, a burning sensation came from the back of her hand, causing her to cry out in pain.

Her previously somewhat chaotic mind cleared up from the sharp pain, and as a cold wind blew, the hair on Zhuang Xiaoman's body stood on end.

Why did I have the thought of going in to find those two children?

Clutching her phone, she hurriedly backed away, unable to stop the lingering fear in her heart.

Panic-stricken, she shoved her phone back into her pocket, ran back to her scooter, and hurriedly twisted the throttle to get away from this eerie place.

After another minute or two, Zhuang Xiaoman turned her head to look behind her. The eerie alley had disappeared from view, and the unease in her heart finally subsided.

Thump, thump, thump~~

Suddenly, a sound like a basketball hitting the ground came from ahead. Zhuang Xiaoman was startled and hurriedly turned her head to look forward.

In the middle of the road ahead, two little children were chasing each other under the dim streetlights. They slammed the ball in their hands onto the ground, making a "thump" sound, and it bounced up into the other child's hands.

The two children seemed to have noticed Zhuang Xiaoman. They stopped and turned around, clutching the ball in their arms.

Screech~

A piercing screech of brakes rang out on the empty road. Zhuang Xiaoman's eyes widened in terror; her mind went blank, but her trembling limbs seemed rooted to the spot, unable to move even half a step. Boundless fear washed over her like a tidal wave, threatening to drown her.

Those were two children who looked no more than five or six years old, holding a scalp-less human head in their arms. Two pairs of pure black eyes looked directly at Zhuang Xiaoman, and they grinned, revealing serrated, saw-like teeth.

"Big sister, stay and play ball with us!" A voice full of childish innocence rang in her ears.
