81: Chapter 81 The Poor Child
"Hey! Old He, stop working. The sun is too strong. Come down, take a break, and eat something first!"
At a construction site in the West District, a dark-skinned middle-aged man shouted at a man a few years older than him on the scaffolding.
"Hey, alright! Let me finish this bit, and I'll come down." Old He looked up at the dazzling sun overhead and responded, looking down.
"Fine! I'll leave your meal here." After hearing this, the middle-aged man placed the lunch box in his hand by his feet and began to eat.
A few minutes later, Old He put away the tools in his hand, glanced down at the scaffolding beneath his feet, wiped away his sweat, and began to climb down.
Just as he was about to reach the platform, his vision suddenly went black, and his head felt dizzy. His foot missed its mark, and he slipped.
"Oh no!"
Old He's heart gave a violent jolt. In a panic, he tried to grab the scaffolding to save himself, but the scaffolding, which had been within reach, was now impossible to touch.
"Old He!" The middle-aged man abruptly dropped his lunch box and rushed toward the direction where Old He had fallen.
The sensation of weightlessness washed over him, and the wind whistled in his ears. Old He seemed to hear someone calling him, but the wind was too loud, and he couldn't hear clearly.
"Rip!"
That was the sound of clothes tearing; it seemed something had cut his hand.
Strangely, he didn't feel much pain, just a hot sensation on his arm, as if he were bleeding.
With a dull thud, all the surrounding workers were startled, and they immediately gathered around the source of the sound.
"It's Old He! Old He fell from above!" The first person to arrive shouted to those around him.
"Quick, call 120 for an ambulance!" After hearing the commotion, the foreman ran over from a distance, and upon seeing Old He, he hurriedly shouted to his assistant beside him.
"It hurts so much... I wonder how much compensation the construction site will pay my family after I die? It's a pity I won't be able to see my kid get married and have children!"
These were Old He's last thoughts before losing consciousness.
...
"Grandpa! Your grandson is calling you!"
"Grandpa! Your grandson is calling you!"
"..."
In the living room of Tongjiang Residential Area.
Near dusk, Lu Siye emerged from his state of Cultivate, glanced at the phone beside him, and saw it was a call from Meng Jianmin.
"Hello! Brother Meng, is something the matter?" After answering the phone, Lu Siye asked.
"Lu Siye, come to the Evil Suppression Bureau; there is an urgent matter to announce." The serious voice of Meng Jianmin came from the other end of the line.
"By the way, remember to bring Fang Lanyue as well. The Evil Suppression Bureau has been keeping these Yin Spirits; it's time for them to contribute."
"Alright!" Lu Siye replied.
Lu Siye didn't ask further. Wang Wenjing had already told him previously that Spiritual Energy Revival would arrive in four or five days.
Today was already the fourth day; he reckoned the Evil Suppression Bureau was summoning them for this very reason.
He hung up the phone, not questioning how Meng Jianmin knew about Fang Lanyue.
One had to know that the other party was the person in charge of the West District. For special existences like Yin Spirits, he would receive information the moment their identities were confirmed.
He went to the bedroom, found the briefcase from before, took the lingming jade out of the System Space, and placed it into the briefcase.
Then, he took out the blazing blood saber and placed it into the sword case.
The existence of the System must absolutely not be exposed. Taking the items out beforehand was also to avoid exposing the fact that he could retrieve items out of thin air.
After preparing everything, Lu Siye arrived at the entrance of the residential area.
Just as he was about to take out his phone to hail a car, he saw a patrol vehicle in the distance heading toward Tongjiang Residential Area.
Although the patrol vehicle was still a few hundred meters away from the residential area, with his strength, he could clearly see that the driver behind the windshield was Officer Zheng Hai, whom he had collaborated with a few times.
He put his phone away, and before long, Officer Zheng Hai drove the patrol vehicle and stopped steadily in front of Lu Siye.
"Comrade Xiao Lu, get in. The higher-ups sent me to pick you up." Officer Zheng Hai rolled down the window and said to Lu Siye.
The "higher-ups" he mentioned should be the Evil Suppression Bureau. It seemed that the matter of Spiritual Energy Revival was indeed very urgent for the Evil Suppression Bureau, as they had even sent a vehicle to pick him up in advance.
"Sorry for the trouble, Officer Zheng Hai!" Lu Siye nodded.
He pulled open the back door, sat in, and placed the sword case and briefcase beside him.
Officer Zheng Hai glanced at the items on the seat through the rearview mirror. Although only Comrade Xiao Lu was sitting in the back seat, the entire vehicle had sunk quite a bit. It seemed those two items were quite heavy.
As expected of someone who professionally handles supernatural incidents.
Officer Zheng Hai thought to himself, his hands not stopping for a moment as he pressed the gas pedal and quickly headed forward.
At a certain intersection, just as Lu Siye was basking in the setting sun while waiting for the red light,
a bus arrived beside them, blocking his sunlight.
Lu Siye looked up; it was a bus full of students.
Some were happily chatting with each other, some were looking out the window with sad faces, and others were leaning against the window in a daze.
Although everyone's expressions were different, those young, innocent faces were all the future of Kyushu.
Just as Lu Siye was observing them, he happened to lock eyes with a student sitting by the window.
It was a slightly chubby boy; his complexion was a bit pale, but there was no problem with his Yang Qi; it seemed he was just in poor health.
After the two stared at each other for a while, the boy looked away first out of shyness.
"That's not right. Isn't it still summer vacation? Why are there students going to class?" After withdrawing his gaze, Lu Siye suddenly thought of something.
Upon hearing Lu Siye's voice, Officer Zheng Hai turned his head to look at the students on the bus, then said with a smile.
"These should all be high school seniors. Today is July 31st; tomorrow is August."
After hearing this, Lu Siye realized.
For other students, the summer vacation might be over a month or nearly two months long, but for prospective high school seniors, their summer vacation was less than a month because they had to start school on August 1st.
What a poor kid!
Lu Siye suddenly felt fortunate that when his Transmigration occurred, he was already a college student and not a miserable high school senior.
Not long after, the red light turned green, and the patrol vehicle continued forward.
The higher the population density, the more people would be affected when Ghosts caused chaos. Therefore, the base of the Tianhai City Evil Suppression Bureau was established in the most populous Dongcheng District.
More than half an hour later, Officer Zheng Hai drove the patrol vehicle directly into the West District Public Security Sub-bureau.
Lu Siye was brought to the parking lot with a look of confusion. Wasn't it supposed to be the Evil Suppression Bureau base!
Why did they come to the sub-bureau instead?
