39: Chapter 39 The Mastermind
"Are you alright?" Fang Lanyue's voice came from outside the bathroom door. She had heard the commotion inside and specifically came to check.
"I'm fine!" Lu Siye replied, looking up. He crouched before the bathtub, reached out to pull the plug, and drained the water.
The water inside had been occupied by a water Ghost reeking of fish, so it couldn't be used anymore; it was repulsive to think about.
Although he had just been attacked by the water Ghost, Lu Siye had obtained the information he wanted from it.
The Net had already started targeting him, and the one targeting him was surely Hei Ming, the Star Lord who held a grudge against him.
After all, the only person who still thought of him as a Night Patrol Envoy who was severely injured, besides Meng Jianmin, who was also a member of the Evil Suppression Bureau, was him.
"Who's there?"
Suddenly, Lu Siye shouted explosively. He yanked the bathroom door open and vanished beneath the balcony like a blurred shadow.
In the pitch-black night, the surrounding buildings rapidly receded. Lu Siye ran across the rooftops, his eyes locked firmly in one direction.
Just now, while he was in the bathroom, a Ghost's aura had suddenly breached his perception range, and that aura resembled the Ghost that had previously cast the Ghost Wall.
Swish~
After crossing a street, Lu Siye finally saw a blue-black Big-headed Doll running rapidly through the darkness in a small alley, glancing back at its rear from time to time.
"Got you!" Lu Siye whispered, activating Lingbo Microsteps, and his speed soared once again.
The Big-headed Doll in the darkness continued to run away from Tongjiang Residential Area, checking behind it from time to time to ensure that the man who could severely injure its master was not following.
Previously, because it needed to maintain the Ghost Wall to conceal its master's aura, it couldn't spare the effort to assist its master in dealing with that man.
Later, although its master was injured, that man was already at the end of his rope; if they had kept fighting, that man would surely have been the one to die.
Unfortunately, reinforcements for that man had arrived, and to preserve their lives, they had to retreat.
After its master was severely injured and fled, it had been deliberately left in the sewer, following the man back to his residence to see if it could find an opportunity to kill him.
However, after witnessing its master's severe injury, the Big-headed Doll was filled with fear toward Lu Siye. It didn't dare to attack itself, so it could only trick some wandering Ghosts into doing the dirty work.
It tricked a female Ghost into going to kill the man, but as expected, that female Ghost failed.
Then it tricked a drowned Ghost into killing him, and in order to find out the extent of the man's injuries, it quietly prepared to approach his residence.
But unexpectedly, before it could even enter the building, it heard a shout.
It immediately realized it had been discovered. As a special talent with the ability to cast the Ghost Wall, it absolutely could not die here.
It didn't linger, turning and running, not daring to stop for a moment, fearing that the man's figure would suddenly appear behind it and slash down with a blade.
A blade that even its master's body, which rivaled that of a fierce Ghost, couldn't withstand—it, a mere minor evil Ghost, didn't want to test its own hardness with its life.
After running for more than twenty kilometers without any dangerous mishaps, the Big-headed Doll finally slowed down.
After confirming that no one was following it, it hid in the darkness of a street corner and raised its small hand to wipe away non-existent cold sweat.
That was truly a brush with death; it felt as if its heart, which hadn't beaten for years, had almost been scared into beating again.
That man's injuries had recovered, and his strength had improved even further; it had to rush back to report to its master.
Suddenly, the Big-headed Doll shuddered. For some reason, it, a Ghost, actually felt a chill.
The Big-headed Doll instinctively took a few steps back, only to find that it had bumped into something.
It turned its head to look, and a familiar, terrifying face was right in front of it.
"Where do you think you're going!" Lu Siye crouched behind the Big-headed Doll, resting his right hand on its shoulder, and revealed a kindly smile.
[The Ghost-Headed Infant was terrified, its scalp tingling. Holy crap! Holy crap! Fear value +99!]
[Ding~ Fear value +99!]
[Ding~ Fear value +99!]
This scare directly contributed a triple critical hit of fear points to Lu Siye.
"Ah~" A sharp scream rang out, causing Lu Siye to instinctively pull his head away.
Bang!
An explosion sounded, and a massive force pushed away Lu Siye's palm, while a thick black screen instantly enveloped his entire body.
"Ghost Wall again!" Lu Siye frowned. He released his Qi and blood, condensing it into a blade, and slashed through. The Ghost Wall shattered upon impact.
After the Ghost Wall vanished, the Ghost-Headed Infant was nowhere to be seen, leaving behind only a severed hand on the ground, still attached to a portion of the forearm.
"This Ghost-Headed Infant is truly ruthless. To shake me off, it directly self-detonated an arm."
Lu Siye shook his head, picked up the Ghost hand, and unleashed a suction force from his hand, draining the Yin Qi inside.
Subsequently, Lu Siye leaped up, stood on the rooftop, and squinted into the distance in a certain direction.
Within his perception, there was a black and white ball of light.
That was the Life-Death Talisman, a technique inherent to the Bei Ming Divine Art, which he had struck into it when the Ghost-Headed Infant wasn't paying attention just now.
As mentioned before, the Beiming True Qi possessed both Yin and Yang qualities; the masculine Beiming True Qi was as scorching as molten lava, while the feminine Beiming True Qi was several times colder than ice.
A true Life-Death Talisman was condensed by utilizing two types of pure Beiming True Qi. Once implanted into someone's body, it could absorb the energy within them, making them feel as if they were being burned by raging fire or falling into an ice cellar at any time.
Of course, Lu Siye's level of Internal Energy was not yet sufficient for him to compress it into True Qi.
However, once one's cultivation exceeded half a cycle (30 years), one could condense a low-tier version of the Life-Death Talisman using Internal Energy. Although it lacked the function of torturing people, it possessed the property of being extremely difficult to remove and could also be used for tracking.
Previously, after absorbing the Yin Qi from the water Ghost in the bathroom, Lu Siye's Internal Energy had already surpassed half a cycle, reaching over 32 years, enough to condense a low-tier Life-Death Talisman.
Watching the conspicuous ball of light in the distance, Lu Siye followed unhurriedly.
The Net Star Lord, is it!
You'd better wait for me!
...
On the other side, the Ghost-Headed Infant was holding its mangled shoulder, fleeing into the distance with a look of terror.
It didn't know how it had been caught up to without noticing, and it also didn't know if that man was still behind it.
It wobbled to a manhole cover, instinctively glanced around, and then opened the cover and crawled in.
It didn't believe that even after crawling into the sewer, that man could still track it.
Although the Ghost-Headed Infant thought this, to be safe, it didn't immediately run toward its master's hiding spot.
Lu Siye stood on the rooftop, watching the conspicuous ball of light underground that suddenly turned and darted around, but was generally heading toward the South District.
After thinking for a moment, he chose to continue following.
More than an hour later, just as it was about to enter the South District, the ball of light turned again and headed toward the North District at an even faster speed.
"Heh! Quite cautious."
