4: Chapter 4: Arrived at Police Station

Officer Zheng Hai was already in his thirties this year. Having served as a Public Security Officer for over a decade and solved countless cases both large and small, he could truly be called experienced.

Recently, the series of home invasion murders in Tianhai City had been causing them endless trouble.

For the past few days, they had been working overtime almost every day, all to catch the murderer as soon as possible and restore peace and order to the citizens of Tianhai City.

Just after midnight tonight, while he was working overtime, he suddenly received a message from the dispatcher saying that someone in the Tongjiang Residential Area had reported witnessing a homicide, which was suspected to be related to the recent series of home invasion murders.

After receiving the news, they did not dare to delay for even a moment. Apart from a few personnel left behind, everyone else in the Public Security Bureau set out.

Furthermore, due to the dangerous nature of the murderer, they not only had standard anti-riot shields and stun batons but were even equipped with firearms to ensure they could capture or neutralize this heinous murderer at the first opportunity.

They assembled quickly, turned off their sirens, and sped all the way toward the Tongjiang Residential Area.

The journey, which would normally take over ten minutes, was forcibly shortened to ten minutes.

After Lu Siye had been knocking outside the door for several minutes, not only did he not wait for the big brother inside to come and open the door, but he ended up waiting for the Public Security Officers instead.

He heard the roar of car engines sounding outside the residential area, followed immediately by the screech of brakes.

Lu Siye walked over to the railing and looked down.

He saw several patrol cars parked downstairs, and over a dozen Public Security Officers quickly jumped out of the cars, each holding an anti-riot shield in one hand and pressing their other hand to their waist, rushing up toward his building.

"Damn it, did he really call the police?"

Lu Siye was shocked. He hurriedly ran back into his room and looked down at the living room. The Delivery Ghost from before had already dissipated, leaving behind only a large pool of blood and a black raincoat on the floor.

"Why does the Ghost's body dissipate, but the blood doesn't!!!"

Lu Siye was losing his mind. He hurriedly rushed onto the balcony, grabbed a mop, and charged into the living room, attempting to mop up the blood on the floor.

Just at that moment, he faintly heard the sound of light footsteps in the hallway, followed by a knock on his door.

"Hello! We are the residential area property management. Someone has complained about you making noise in the middle of the night, seriously disturbing others' rest. Please cooperate with us."

Outside the door, a security guard for the residential area stood in front and spoke. In the hallway on either side of the door, over a dozen Public Security Officers, led by their experienced captain, had their backs pressed tightly against the wall, watching the door vigilantly.

They were now lying in ambush outside the murderer's door, having the property management pretend to mediate a conflict between tenants, waiting for the moment he lowered his guard to open the door so they could rush in and subdue him.

A few seconds later, Officer Zheng Hai waved at the residential security guard, signaling for him to move away.

Officer Zheng Hai walked up to the door, raised his thick leg, and kicked it hard.

With a bang, the door swung open, and before them appeared a young man holding a mop, with a large pool of blood at his feet.

"He is trying to destroy the crime scene!"

Officer Zheng Hai immediately realized the suspect's intent. He hurriedly drew the pistol from his waist, disengaged the safety, and aimed in one fluid motion.

"Drop the mop in your hand and squat down!"

Lu Siye stared blankly at the seven or eight dark gun barrels before him. Being sensible, he dropped the mop in his hand, covered his head, and squatted down.

"Comrade Public Security Officer, if I say this is a misunderstanding, would you believe me?" Lu Siye said sheepishly, holding his head.

"Save it for the Public Security Bureau!" Officer Zheng Hai took out handcuffs and quickly cuffed him.

Feeling the coldness on his wrists, Lu Siye knew that now, even if he jumped into the Yellow River, he wouldn't be able to wash himself clean.

After taking the suspect away, Officer Zheng Hai crouched down to examine the blood on the floor.

He reached out, dipped his finger in a bit of the blood on the floor, and smelled it.

"Strange, why is there no smell of blood?"

He looked back at the raincoat on the floor, which was suspected to have been left by the victim. He took a pair of gloves out of his pocket, put them on, and reached out to grab it.

"Tingle~"

At that very moment, a bell pattern on his police uniform shook strangely, emitting a crisp sound.

Officer Zheng Hai's expression changed, and he hurriedly took out his phone to make a call.

"The bell rang. We have found that kind of thing!" He said in a low voice after the call connected.

"Wait for me!" Only these two words came from the other end of the line before it was hung up.

A few minutes later, a tall man, as sturdy as an iron tower and wearing a black trench coat, suddenly appeared in the room.

Officer Zheng Hai's pupils constricted. He instinctively drew the pistol from his waist, but just as he was about to raise it, a large hand pressed it down. A chill instantly shot from the soles of his feet to the top of his head.

"When did he get here?"

"Relax, I'm just here to investigate that kind of thing." The man said, letting go of the pistol, and walked over to the raincoat on his own, reaching out to pick it up.

As for the blood on the floor, he didn't pay it any mind. After a Ghost dies, it usually leaves something behind—sometimes blood, sometimes eyes, hair, or perhaps one of its organs.

"It is indeed that kind of thing." The man felt the heavy Yin Qi and resentment coming from the raincoat and the blood on the floor; this was indeed an item used by a Ghost.

"Alright, take the person back to the Public Security Bureau first. Someone will naturally take over later," the man said to Officer Zheng Hai, then took the raincoat, jumped off the balcony, and disappeared into the night.

Officer Zheng Hai put away his gun, belatedly realizing that his back had been soaked with cold sweat at some point without him even noticing.

Officer Zheng Hai quickly adjusted his demeanor, turned around, walked out, and knocked on the door across the hall.

Soon, the door opened, and a short, stout middle-aged man with a beer belly, a receding hairline, and a pale complexion stood behind the door.

"We are from the Tianhai City Public Security Bureau. We received a report. May I ask if you were the one who called the police earlier?" Officer Zheng Hai glanced at the man, showed his identification, and asked.

"Yes, Comrade Public Security Officer, the screams came from that kid's room earlier. You have no idea how miserable those screams were..."

"Alright, the suspect has been apprehended. Please come with us to the Public Security Bureau; we need to take a statement regarding this matter." Seeing that the man was about to ramble on, Officer Zheng Hai immediately interrupted.

"No problem! No problem!" The middle-aged man nodded hurriedly, a smile plastered on his face.

Lu Siye was unaware of what happened upstairs after he was taken into the patrol car; he still assumed that the big brother next door had called the police.

However, who called the police was not important now; what mattered was how he should explain things to make himself clear.

Right now, he was truly in a tight spot, with his shoulders and wrists being gripped by the Public Security Officers beside him.
