30: Chapter 30 The Black Mist Man
"Hmm?"
"What is this?"
Lu Siye crouched down, picked up the silvery-white object, and examined it in his palm.
This item appeared to be made of silver. Judging by its shape, it looked somewhat like a lock, with the characters "Long Life" inscribed on it; it was likely one half of a Longevity Lock.
Stuffing it into his pocket, Lu Siye went over to his blazing blood saber and discovered another silvery-white object there.
He picked it up; its shape was very similar to the previous one, and it had the characters "One Hundred Years" inscribed on it.
After tucking this one into his pocket as well, Lu Siye pulled the blazing blood saber out of the ground and crouched down beside Zhuang Xiaoman.
"Are you alright?" Lu Siye asked with concern.
Zhuang Xiaoman seemed to hear someone speaking near her ear; she slowly raised her head and looked at Lu Siye with dull, vacant eyes.
The Zhuang Xiaoman before him no longer possessed the delicate beauty he had seen that morning. Her hair was disheveled, with strands stuck to her face due to sweat, her makeup was ruined by tears, and she looked utterly dejected and soul-stricken.
Lu Siye used his Yang Qi to check on her; Zhuang Xiaoman's three Yang Fires were still burning, and her three souls did not seem to have been damaged, though there was quite a bit of residual Yin Qi inside her body.
Silently sighing, Lu Siye grasped Zhuang Xiaoman's hand, drew the Yin Qi out of her body, and took the opportunity to circulate his Cultivation Technique to transfer some Yang Qi to her.
After doing this, the dullness in Zhuang Xiaoman's eyes slowly began to regain its color. Looking at Lu Siye beside her, she suddenly hugged his arm like a koala and burst into tears with a wail.
Lu Siye, who had been single for two lifetimes, was suddenly at a loss, not knowing how to handle the situation before him, and could only let her cry.
After a while, the sobbing beside him grew quieter, and Zhuang Xiaoman's breathing became steady.
It seemed she had fallen asleep.
Having been subjected to multiple frights in a short period, she was already exhausted.
Gently pulling his arm out from Zhuang Xiaoman's embrace, he supported her back and leaned her against the wall.
After ensuring she wouldn't fall, Lu Siye stood up and went to the streetlamp. He took the two pieces of the Longevity Lock out of his pocket and compared them; the notches matched perfectly, and when combined, they were indeed the same Longevity Lock.
Strange!
The System clearly stated it was Twin Ghost Infants, so why was there only one Longevity Lock?
Could it be that they weren't brothers, but rather two personalities of the same person?
Lu Siye frowned slightly, feeling puzzled.
A fallen leaf drifted before his eyes. Suddenly, the Longevity Lock in his hand emitted a flash of white light that dazzled Lu Siye.
He instinctively closed his eyes, and when he opened them, the surrounding scene had changed drastically.
The scene before him was very blurry, as if there was thick fog all around, or as if a piece of frosted glass had been placed in front of him, making it impossible to see the world clearly, while also feeling somewhat like a dream.
Lu Siye looked around and managed to discern that this was an old-fashioned room. In the center of the room, an old-fashioned light bulb was the only source of light.
Expanding his perception to the maximum and confirming there was no danger around, Lu Siye pondered for a moment before taking steps and walking forward slowly.
Arriving in the middle of the room, the scene before him changed once again.
A simple wooden bed lay before him. A woman whose features could not be clearly seen was lying on the wooden bed, and a man was standing beside the woman.
Beside the wooden bed was a small baby cradle, where a baby with chubby cheeks was sleeping soundly, with a silvery-white longevity lock hanging around its neck.
Strangely, all the objects here were blurry; only the baby and the longevity lock before him were very clear.
Moreover, the longevity lock on the baby's neck looked exactly the same as the one in his hand; it was very likely the same one.
Just as Lu Siye wanted to get closer to observe, the scene before him changed again.
A person completely shrouded in black fog stood in the room, and the man who had been accompanying the woman by the bed spread his arms to block the figure.
Lu Siye could not see the expression on the man's face; he could only see his mouth opening and closing continuously, as if he were saying something very emotionally.
Suddenly, a bloody saber light erupted from the black fog, and everything before his eyes—the man, the woman, the baby, and the longevity lock—was sliced in two.
Before Lu Siye could react, the scene before him changed once more.
The person in the black fog came to the baby lying on the ground. Above the baby, two white phantoms were floating.
"Hahaha~"
A bone-chilling laugh suddenly rang out in the previously silent environment.
Two streams of black Qi drifted out from the black fog, carrying the two white phantoms, and each entered one half of the baby's body, while the Longevity Lock, which had been broken into two pieces, also merged into them.
Subsequently, the scene shifted again. Two small babies stood beside the black fog, wobbling as they followed the person in the black fog into the distance.
The scene ended there, and the surrounding environment began to shatter. His vision went black, and a sensation of weightlessness washed over him.
When he opened his eyes again, the surrounding environment had returned to the familiar street, and Lu Siye saw a fallen leaf drifting down before his eyes.
Had only a split second passed?
What exactly was that scene just now?
The sliced-open baby... two white phantoms... two babies leaving...
Wait, could Twin Ghost Infants mean one body with two souls!
If that were the case, then the scene just now was the process of the Twin Ghost Infants' birth!?
"Could the master mentioned by the Ghost Infants before they died be that person hidden in the black fog?" Lu Siye's expression was grim, and a nameless fire burned in his heart.
That beast actually killed living people to create Ghosts.
Taking a deep breath, Lu Siye forcibly suppressed the anger in his heart, took a photo of the Longevity Lock, edited the information, and reported this matter to the Evil Suppression Bureau.
The reporting progress bar spun for a moment, and finally displayed: Report Failed!
What's going on? Still no signal?
Lu Siye suddenly realized something. He looked up at his surroundings; it was completely silent all around. He couldn't even hear the most common summer cicadas, and the street was terrifyingly quiet.
That's not right. Why is the Ghost Wall still here even though the Twin Ghost Infants are dead?
Lu Siye secretly circulated his Cultivation Technique, looking around vigilantly.
There was only one possibility for the current situation: this Ghost Wall was not created by the Twin Ghost Infants, but by another Ghost.
And for a Ghost to maintain the continued existence of a Ghost Wall, it must be within the range of the Ghost Wall.
In other words, there was still a Ghost of unknown strength hidden around here.
*Swish~*
Suddenly, a black shadow flashed by in the distance and entered an alleyway.
Lu Siye turned his head to look. With a grim face, he remained standing where he was, having no intention of going over to investigate.
After waiting for a long time, the black shadow did not appear again, and Lu Siye did not make a move either.
Just as he was contemplating countermeasures, a roar came from behind him.
"It was you who killed my Twin Ghost Infants!"
Not good!
The sound of something breaking through the air rang out behind him. Lu Siye's whole body tensed up; it was too late to dodge, so he could only barely block horizontally with his saber.
*Bang!*
A tremendous force came from the saber, sending Lu Siye, along with his saber, flying.
Lu Siye quickly stabilized his center of gravity in mid-air. After his feet touched the ground, he retreated more than ten steps, stamping his feet, before he could dissipate the massive impact.
He hurriedly looked up at his original position, where a person completely shrouded in black fog was standing.
"Beast, it's you!" Lu Siye gritted his teeth, anger erupting in his eyes.
