"Brother Cheng, where are we going?"

"Isn't it dinner time? Of course we're going to eat first." Chen Cheng turned his head and smiled at Guan Juer, "My colleague heard I was going on a date with a girl and specifically recommended a restaurant to me."

A date?

Guan Juer gulped. Chen Cheng's words made her very nervous, yet very happy and excited.

Blushing, she muttered softly, "Oh."

Seeing that she didn't say anything more, Chen Cheng focused on driving.

For a moment, a brief silence fell over the car. Guan Juer felt like she was sitting on pins and needles, her mind racing to think of something to say so the atmosphere wouldn't be so dull.

Guan Juer thought for a moment and said, "Brother Cheng, thank you for the other day. Sister Fan told me you were the one who took me back."

"I won't dare to drink like that again next time."

Chen Cheng glanced at her, "Just a verbal thanks?"

"Huh?" Guan Juer was stunned; Chen Cheng's words were clearly not within her expectations.

Seeing Guan Juer's uneasy look, Chen Cheng couldn't help but laugh. At this moment, Guan Juer was truly too naive and adorable, making one feel protective of her.

"Just teasing you. When you're drunk, you don't cry or make a scene. You're as quiet as a kitten when you sleep, very easy to take care of."

"Actually, it's my fault for not stopping you. Although the alcohol content of yellow wine is low, it's still intoxicating."

Guan Juer quickly shook her head, "No, Brother Cheng, it was actually because I wanted to drink it myself."

"Oh?" Chen Cheng was a bit surprised.

"My mother always drinks yellow wine at home, so I wanted to try it. But she never lets me, saying why should a girl drink alcohol."

"It just so happened that Brother Cheng brought some yellow wine that day. I really wanted to try it, heehee~"

After saying this, Guan Juer smiled sheepishly.

Like a kitten that had successfully stolen a treat and was feeling quite pleased with itself.

"So you're a little gluttonous cat," Chen Cheng joked with a smile.

Guan Juer gave a shy smile.

The restaurant Gao Yue helped book was in the Financial City, and they arrived quickly.

It was a high-altitude restaurant on the 75th floor of a skyscraper.

Gao Yue was very thoughtful and had booked a window seat.

After ordering, the two chatted.

"Brother Cheng, do you know the man who was having lunch with Sister Andy?"

"I don't know him, but he's probably the one from that Crossword puzzle the other day."

"Ah? It's him."

Chen Cheng smiled, "What do you think of him?"

"Not much. He looks a bit old, and standing together, he's not even as tall as Sister Andy."

After saying it, Guan Juer regretted it, feeling like she was being a gossip. "Brother Cheng, am I being too gossipy? My dad says not spreading gossip is a basic principle of being a good person."

Chen Cheng didn't care and shrugged, "Who doesn't talk about others behind their backs, and who isn't talked about? Gossiping is human nature."

Chen Cheng smiled, "Just be open about it when you say it."

"Huh? You can be open about gossiping?" Guan Juer's eyes widened.

Chen Cheng grinned wickedly, "Watching the drama is more interesting if you invite the person involved to join in."

"Pfft~" Guan Juer couldn't help but laugh. Brother Cheng was so wicked; who gossips about someone and then calls them over to listen?

After a pause, Guan Juer asked, "Brother Cheng, what do you think of Supervisor Bai?"

"Why do you ask?"

Guan Juer felt a bit embarrassed, "Supervisor Bai stood Yingying up yesterday and went to help Little Qu move her company. I couldn't stand it, so I told Yingying about Little Qu slipping her phone number to Supervisor Bai."

"Since Supervisor Bai is Yingying's boyfriend, I felt she had the right to know."

Chen Cheng was stunned, "So now Little Qiu hates you too? She thinks it's a betrayal because you didn't tell her right away and that you're on Qu Xiaoxiao's side?"

Guan Juer nodded sheepishly, "From last night until I left this morning, Yingying hasn't said a word to me."

"Actually, I wasn't against them being together before. But now I'm very much against it. I think this Supervisor Bai is a real piece of work."

Uh... (⊙o⊙)...

If Supervisor Bai was a few ounces of a piece of work, then Chen Cheng was at least eight tons.

Chen Cheng clicked his tongue, "Right now, Qiu Yingying and that Supervisor Bai are boyfriend and girlfriend. Most likely, she'd rather hold a grudge against you than believe her boyfriend is the problem."

Scum's eyes rolled as he began to sow discord; he couldn't let the enemy form a united front. "You're just roommates. In Qiu Yingying's heart, there's no way you're more important than the boyfriend she's going to 'spend the rest of her life' with."

"Guan Guan, I don't know if you've heard the saying, 'Respect the fate of others.'"

"As an ordinary friend, fulfilling your duty to warn her is already a great act of kindness. If you say or do more, it will only make Qiu Yingying feel like you're being meddlesome."

"Qiu Yingying will think, 'Do I need you to tell me what to do?'"

"She'll think you're sticking your nose where it doesn't belong. Gradually, dislike will turn into hatred, and then you won't even be able to be friends anymore."

"You'd better just wish her luck. Wish that she gets what she wants and that Supervisor Bai turns over a new leaf."

Guan Juer nodded thoughtfully. She didn't agree in her heart, but she could accept it for now.

After the food started arriving, the two chatted while eating.

"Brother Cheng, how did you and Sister Andy meet?"

"When I was a graduate student, I found an internship on Wall Street during the holidays. Andy and Old Tan were my colleagues," Chen Cheng shrugged, "and also my superiors."

"Since we're all Chinese and hit it off, we hung out often and gradually became friends."

"Later, I got a Ph.D. offer and left Wall Street."

"Ah? Brother Cheng, you're a Ph.D.?" Guan Juer's eyes widened as if she had discovered a new continent.

Chen Cheng smiled and shook his head, "Not really, I dropped out."

Guan Juer's eyes widened even more, her thick glasses unable to hide her shock. "Ah? Why? You're so smart!"

"Being smart doesn't mean having creativity; those are two different things."

"Maybe some people are suited for work from zero to one, while others are better suited for work from one to infinity."

"I probably belong to the latter."

Guan Juer nodded thoughtfully, "Oh, so that's how it is."

...

They chatted for a while longer about their respective educational experiences.

Guan Juer actually went to university in the south. She came to Magic City because her mother thought it was closer to their hometown and used some connections to get her an internship at her current company.

"Wow! It's so beautiful."

Guan Juer exclaimed from the bottom of her heart as she looked at the breathtaking scenery on the horizon.

It was sunset when they arrived, but the view when they first entered was not nearly as stunning as it was now.

Chen Cheng glanced toward the horizon.

The sky had been dyed orange-red by the setting sun, like an overturned palette spreading colors at will. The clouds seemed to be edged with gold, wispy and drifting slowly under the gentle caress of the wind. The distant skyscrapers were also enveloped in this dim yellow light, as if covered by a veil, their silhouettes becoming hazy and soft.

Scum's lips curled into a slight smile as he looked into Guan Juer's eyes and said softly, "The world is beautiful—the sunset and you."
