He was a programmer, but he wasn't stupid; he knew his place.
A company that could use the word "Holdings" in its name was never simple, no matter where it was.
Besides, he hadn't intended to come on a blind date in the first place, so there was no need to offend them.
Mother Li was about to say something, but was immediately pulled back by Li Zhihao.
He smiled and said, "Since it's a misunderstanding, we won't disturb you any further."
Chen Cheng smiled, "We can grab a coffee sometime if there's an opportunity."
Li Zhihao was straightforward and nodded.
He also smiled and nodded at Father Guan and Mother Guan.
Since he was taking his parents away, Father Guan and Mother Guan had no choice but to stand up and smile, apologizing while seeing them to the door.
Once they watched the family of three get into a taxi, Mother Guan turned back and glared at Guan Juer, "Look at the mess you've made."
Guan Juer looked embarrassed, grabbed Mother Guan's arm, and acted coquettishly, "Mom, that's because you launched a surprise attack."
Chen Cheng smiled, "Uncle, Aunt, shall we go back inside?"
Mother Guan didn't give Chen Cheng a pleasant look and strode back to the restaurant.
Father Guan walked side-by-side with Chen Cheng behind them, raised an eyebrow, and asked, "Chen Cheng, right?"
"Yes, Uncle," Chen Cheng nodded.
"How did you meet our Xiao Guan?"
"Guan Guan is neighbors with my friend; we met at a party at my friend's house."
After they returned to the restaurant and sat down, Father Guan watched Guan Juer pull out chairs for the two of them and then sit next to Chen Cheng, and the corner of his mouth twitched significantly.
He let out a heavy sigh in his heart; his little cotton-padded jacket had been snatched away.
Mother Guan glared at Guan Juer with annoyance.
Guan Juer chuckled, trying to mask her embarrassment.
Mother Guan said, "Tell us, how long have you two been together?"
Guan Juer looked at Mother Guan's expression and knew that her mother was already angry with her.
She bit the bullet and said, "One... over a month, almost two months."
Chen Cheng heard the nervousness in her voice and reached out to hold her hand.
Guan Juer turned to look at Chen Cheng, a bit more brightness in her eyes.
Chen Cheng patted her hand, signaling her to calm down.
Mother Guan widened her eyes immediately, "Two months? Two months, and you haven't mentioned it to me or your father. Do you still have any respect for us?"
She knew her daughter; she was gentle and obedient. When had she ever done something so out of character?
Seeing Guan Juer cast a pleading look, Father Guan was a bit unhappy but still stepped in to smooth things over.
"You, why are you so anxious? Isn't the child just waiting for the relationship to be stable before telling you?"
Mother Guan's mouth twitched, and she rolled her eyes at Father Guan, "You just keep spoiling her."
Chen Cheng looked at the empty table with only a few cups of tea, thought for a moment, and said, "Uncle, Aunt, let me introduce myself first."
Mother Guan pursed her lips, looking scrutinizing, and nodded.
"Hello, Uncle, Aunt. My name is Chen Cheng, and I'm 27 years old."
"I graduated from Jiao Tong University for my undergraduate degree and studied for my Master's at Stanford. I was pursuing my PhD, but I've temporarily suspended my studies for some reasons."
Mother Guan's eyes lit up; a PhD student!
Chen Cheng continued, "I just returned to the country recently."
"I'm sort of in the same field as Guan Guan. I have my own fund, and I do some stock and venture capital investing."
As he spoke, Chen Cheng took out his business card and handed it to Father Guan and Mother Guan.
The two took the card, looked closely, exchanged glances, and saw surprise in each other's eyes.
So young, and a Chairman?
After the surprise, Mother Guan felt a wave of worry and asked, "What family do you have?"
"Mom~" Guan Juer immediately interjected to stop her.
Chen Cheng tightened his grip on her hand, smiled at Guan Juer, and nodded, "It's okay, Guan Guan."
Father Guan and Mother Guan frowned as they watched their reaction.
Chen Cheng wore a smile, "My father and mother passed away in a car accident a few years ago."
Mother Guan was stunned, but her furrowed brow relaxed slightly. She apologized, "Xiao Chen, Auntie was intrusive."
Chen Cheng waved his hand, "Aunt, it's fine. It's been many years."
He smiled and continued, "Let me talk about my family situation."
"I am an only child; I don't have any older brothers or sisters, or younger brothers or sisters."
"I have a car and a house, with no mortgage."
"My hometown is actually in Yixing, so I'm somewhat of a fellow townsman to you, Uncle and Aunt."
Father Guan nodded with a smile, "That's truly fate."
Chen Cheng understood; he had passed half of Father Guan's test.
He nodded and continued, "Yes, it really is fate. I only found out when I talked about my hometown with Guan Guan the second time we met, at that party."
"Some of my uncles, aunts, cousins, they are still living in Yixing now."
Chen Cheng smiled, "I've been abroad all these years, so it's been a while since I've been back. I should go back to visit this year."
Mother Guan nodded inwardly; a fellow townsman meant she knew his roots.
She was a few points more satisfied with Chen Cheng in her heart.
He looked good, was very capable, and was already a boss at such a young age.
He was also very responsible and didn't put her daughter in a difficult position throughout the whole process.
Seeing that the atmosphere was just right, Chen Cheng changed the subject, "Uncle, Aunt, it's almost mealtime. Shall we eat while we talk?"
Father Guan looked at Mother Guan, and Mother Guan nodded.
Father Guan smiled and waved his hand, "Waiter~ Waiter~ Serve the food!"
For the blind date, both sets of parents had already ordered, but it was still early, so they hadn't rushed to serve the food.
Guan Juer saw Mother Guan's relaxed expression and breathed a sigh of relief, chuckling foolishly at Mother Guan.
Mother Guan didn't give Guan Juer a pleasant look, "Laugh, you still have the nerve to laugh? I'll deal with you tonight."
Guan Juer's expression stiffened immediately. Watching her cute and naive appearance, Chen Cheng almost laughed out loud.
Mother Guan saw Chen Cheng's expression and became even more satisfied.
Whether one loves someone or not, the eyes cannot hide it.
That moment of doting in his eyes just now couldn't be faked.
Chen Cheng smiled at Mother Guan and spoke up to explain for Guan Juer, "Guan Guan is thin-skinned, and we haven't been together for long. I guess she just hadn't figured out how to tell you both."
Guan Juer nodded her head frantically, "Mm-hmm~"
Watching the two of them being all lovey-dovey, Father Guan's mouth twitched. That was his little cotton-padded jacket.
Soon the food was served, and Mother Guan invited Chen Cheng to use his chopsticks.
"Xiao Cheng, eat, don't be formal."
Chen Cheng nodded, "Yes~" He agreed verbally, but his hands were fiddling with the bowls and dishes in front of him, having no intention of picking up his chopsticks first.
He didn't want to offend his mother-in-law by picking up his chopsticks first.
Sure enough, Mother Guan watched Chen Cheng's actions and smiled knowingly. She picked up her chopsticks, picked up some oil-popped shrimp in front of her, and placed it in Chen Cheng's bowl.
"Come, Xiao Cheng, try it and see how this Shanghai-style cuisine tastes."
Chen Cheng nodded gently, "Yes, thank you, Aunt."
He was overjoyed; at this stage, Mother Guan was definitely satisfied with him.
Guan Juer saw this, smiled knowingly, and was very happy.
