After Chen Cheng finished listening to her introduction, a smile remained on his lips. "In other words, you are currently employed."

Zou Yu nodded sheepishly. "Yes. Our firm is relatively small, so we usually look for cases ourselves."

"That's why I handle many personal cases, and among them, divorce cases are quite frequent. That's why I call myself a divorce lawyer."

Chen Cheng nodded, feeling satisfied.

Actually, anyone could fill this position, even Qin Shi. However, Qin Shi's ill-timed acting cute made Chen Cheng uncomfortable.

Recalling the timeline issues of that melodramatic movie, he asked nonchalantly, "Are you married?"

"What?" Zou Yu asked uncertainly, thinking she had misheard.

"I asked if you could tell me about your family situation," Chen Cheng said with a faint smile. "As you know, a Private Lawyer deals with a lot of confidential information. I need to understand you."

Zou Yu frowned. After thinking for two seconds, she decided to tell the truth. Given the status of the man across from her, it would be simple for him to investigate her.

"Yes, I'm married."

Chen Cheng was immediately disappointed. He had arrived too late.

However, Scum Cheng wasn't someone who cared about such things.

He might even be a little excited.

Zou Yu continued, "However, my husband was transferred to Hong Kong last year."

She gave a cool smile. "We are currently living apart."

Zou Yu's emotions were complex. She felt helpless about her reality, yet hoped Chen Cheng wouldn't reject her just because she was married.

They hadn't divorced yet. Chen Cheng understood; this was before the official plot began.

Fortunately, at least he hadn't let that Korean guy take advantage.

Chen Cheng nodded. "And your family?"

Seeing him continue to ask, Zou Yu breathed a sigh of relief. At least he hadn't ended the conversation right there.

"I have a younger sister who works in finance at Zhilin Group. My parents are both back in my hometown, Jiangcheng."

Chen Cheng nodded. "OK~ Congratulations, Lawyer Zou."

"Huh?" Zou Yu hadn't reacted yet. Seeing Chen Cheng's outstretched hand, she quickly stood up and shook it.

"Pleasure working with you."

Looking at the bulging pectoral muscles under Chen Cheng's shirt, even though Zou Yu was a married woman, she couldn't help but blush. This guy's physique was truly amazing.

A faint smile touched her lips. "Pleasure working with you, Mr. Chen."

Chen Cheng raised an eyebrow and said, "There's one thing I need to make clear to you."

Zou Yu nodded. "Please, go ahead."

"You need to resign from your current law firm."

Zou Yu had expected this and was very calm. After a brief thought, she agreed. "Alright, give me a week. I'll take care of it."

"That's good then~"

Chen Cheng waved his hand. "Go find General Manager Gao to handle your onboarding."

Although he wanted to have a romantic encounter with the beautiful Zou Yu right now...

...he knew that haste makes waste. Besides, Qin Shi was still in the office.

Zou Yu frowned, looking like she wanted to say something but hesitated.

Chen Cheng saw her expression and asked, "Is there anything else?"

Zou Yu felt a bit awkward. "Well..."

"You can be direct," Chen Cheng smiled.

"If I become your Private Lawyer, can I still work as a legal aid pro bono lawyer?"

"I think... a Private Lawyer might not be that busy."

By the time she finished, Zou Yu felt very guilty.

Chen Cheng was paying to hire her, yet she wanted to do other work during her employment. Anyone else would likely find that hard to tolerate.

Actually, Chen Cheng didn't care. If it weren't for wanting to sever her connection with that Korean guy later on, she wouldn't even have had to resign from her original firm.

Chen Cheng nodded. "As long as it doesn't interfere with my business, I support you continuing as a legal aid lawyer in principle."

"Really?" Zou Yu's face immediately lit up with joy.

Chen Cheng shrugged. "Would I get paid for lying to you?"

Zou Yu couldn't help but smile. This guy was actually quite cute.

Suppressing her laughter, she bowed slightly to Chen Cheng. "On behalf of those who need help, thank you."

"You're a good person."

Chen Cheng's lips curled slightly. I hope you'll still say that later.

Chen Cheng waved his hand. Zou Yu followed him out of the conference room, a faint smile lingering on her lips.

She had actually been nervous about applying for the Private Lawyer position at Zhencheng.

She was somewhat reluctant to leave the colleagues she'd worked with for years, and worried that after becoming a Private Lawyer, no one would handle her legal aid cases, or they'd be assigned to someone who wouldn't put in the effort.

As for why she came to Zhencheng to apply...

...it was because she needed money and wanted a more stable income.

Chen Cheng returned to his office, and Qin Shi immediately stood up to greet him.

She threw herself into Chen Cheng's arms and asked crossly, "Did you take a fancy to that vixen?"

Chen Cheng's lips curled. These two really were naturally incompatible.

It was the same both on and off screen.

Chen Cheng supported her backside with one hand while walking toward the sofa, not intending to spoil her. "What if I did?"

Qin Shi was choked with anger. "You!"

Seeing that he had no intention of explaining, Qin Shi turned her head away in a huff.

Chen Cheng raised an eyebrow. His hands weren't idle; they had already climbed the peaks.

He teased her, "This suit looks good on you."

Qin Shi huffed. She was in no mood to talk about clothes. "Why can't I be your Private Lawyer?" she asked indignantly.

Chen Cheng raised an eyebrow. "The company has legal staff, and there's a specialized legal team for M&A. What would be the point of being my Private Lawyer?"

Chen Cheng brushed her off casually. In any case, he couldn't tell Qin Shi that he looked down on her professional abilities.

Some thoughts should be kept to oneself, never spoken aloud, and certainly never written in a diary.

"Hmph, I think you just don't want me involved in your business."

Chen Cheng's lips curled. Qin Shi was a woman who was clever at times, but other times her cleverness worked against her.

No wonder she hadn't managed to break into high society despite trying so hard for all these years.

Her vision was too narrow.

Chen Cheng said indifferently, "As long as you know."

Chen Cheng's hands didn't stop, and Qin Shi looked like she was enjoying it. She hadn't seen him for a while and really missed him.

Qin Shi's eyes were filled with lust as she acted spoiled. "I just want more chances to see you."

Chen Cheng remained unmoved. "If you miss me, you can call me."

"I haven't seen you call though."

Qin Shi's lips twitched. It felt good, but how could she say it out loud?

She rolled her eyes, still not giving up. "Did you make that vixen from earlier your private secretary?"

Chen Cheng lifted his head from her chest and met her seductive face, being quite blunt. "Otherwise? I didn't feel like arranging more interviews."

"It's not an important position anyway. The company has legal advisors; she'll just help me with some miscellaneous chores."

The image of that vixen's devastatingly beautiful face immediately popped into Qin Shi's mind, and her mouth twisted in anger.

She asked Chen Cheng ventingly, "Don't you have a lounge here?"

Chen Cheng raised an eyebrow. "Are you thinking...?"

Qin Shi gave him a flirtatious roll of her eyes. "If I sit here any longer, you'll have all my clothes off."

Chen Cheng's lips curled. He picked her up by the waist and went into the archive room behind the desk.

It was packed with bookshelves, filled with cutting-edge books on various subjects.

This was Chen Cheng's library. He'd skimmed through a small portion, while the majority remained untouched.

In a small cubicle against the far wall stood a 1.8-meter Simmons mattress.

Mmm~
