Chen Cheng walked to the door, and Xu Qin had already opened it, dragging two suitcases into the house.
Judging by how skilled she looked, it didn't seem like it was the first time someone had brought her things.
There was a sense of joy on her face, like someone about to unbox a package.
Seeing Chen Cheng approach with flowers, Xu Qin reached out to take them, smiled faintly, and said, "Come in and sit."
Chen Cheng smiled and stepped into the house.
Xu Qin placed the flowers on the entryway shelf and said to Chen Cheng, "I'll go get you a pair of slippers."
Chen Cheng watched her walk into the small room beside the entryway and began to look around at her house.
Upon entering the foyer, Chen Cheng immediately sensed the smell of money.
The house was very clean, almost like a model home.
It was clearly a new house renovated within the last year or two.
Just past the foyer and through a spacious doorway was the living room. Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows was a snow-covered yard, and beyond that was a frozen lake.
It was actually quite easy to distinguish the snow-covered, frozen lake from the land.
The land had bumps and hollows, while the lake was a vast, flat expanse of snow.
Being able to see the lake view from the foyer once again confirmed the luxury status of this house.
Xu Qin found a pair of men's slippers from the storage room nearby for Chen Cheng.
"Please come in, make yourself at home."
Chen Cheng took the slippers and thanked her, "Thanks~"
Chen Cheng changed into the slippers and walked into the living room to sit on the sofa.
Xu Qin poured Chen Cheng a glass of water, then hurried to bring in a few pieces of firewood from the terrace outside the living room.
Seeing Chen Cheng's surprised look, she smiled embarrassedly, "The heating has some issues, and the temperature won't go up."
"The housekeeper is on vacation back home for the New Year, and I've been quite busy, so I haven't had a chance to call someone to fix it."
Chen Cheng's mouth twitched. I thought as much, no wonder the house was as clean as a model home.
So there was a housekeeper.
Watching her stuff wood into the fireplace and use a lighter to ignite it, he couldn't help but chuckle.
Fortunately, the fireplace in the house was a real one, not just for decoration.
And she knew how to light it; otherwise, in this weather, Xu Qin would either have to stay in a long-term hotel room or freeze to death.
Chen Cheng looked around; the indoor temperature was indeed not high, but it was still warmer than outside.
The heating system should still be working, but the pressure wasn't sufficient.
After glancing around, he found the air vent on the floor against the wall and got up to check it.
He reached out to feel the temperature and wind speed of the vent.
This confirmed Chen Cheng's earlier suspicion; the wind speed was very low, clearly indicating insufficient pressure.
Chen Cheng turned to look at Xu Qin, who had just finished lighting the fireplace. "Is the water heater working normally?"
"Huh?" Xu Qin was stunned for a moment, then quickly nodded. "Yes, it is, otherwise I would have had to stay at a hotel."
Chen Cheng smiled faintly and continued to ask, "Where is the heating system?"
Xu Qin pointed to the foyer they had just entered through. "It's in the basement."
"Does the house use natural gas or liquefied gas?"
Chen Cheng asked while walking toward the basement.
Xu Qin hurried to the front to open the basement door.
"Natural gas."
Chen Cheng didn't ask anything else and followed her down to the basement.
Chen Cheng inspected the boiler.
The heating method here was different from the one in the country; back home, they generally used hot water heating.
But here, families generally used forced-air heating.
That is, using a gas furnace or other heating equipment to heat the air to 40-50 degrees Celsius and distribute it indoors through air ducts.
The advantage was its quick response; it could significantly raise the room temperature within ten minutes, similar to air conditioning.
The disadvantage was that energy consumption was 20%-40% higher than hot water heating.
Families here generally leave it on once turned on. When spring comes, they switch to the fresh air system, and in summer, to central air conditioning.
Even so, they still talk about environmental protection every day.
After checking, Chen Cheng found the problem. "It's likely that the filter is clogged, which is why the airflow in the house is so weak."
"Do you have any spare filters at home?"
This large aluminum boiler was a multi-functional integrated device with air purification filter cartridges.
Some manufacturers even integrate cooling into the boiler.
Xu Qin stared blankly, thinking for a moment. "I think... there might be," she said, turning to rummage through a clutter box in the corner.
Chen Cheng glanced around and found a cardboard box with a 3M logo.
He went over, picked it up, and looked. It really was the filter cartridge. After confirming it was new, he called out to Xu Qin, "Found it."
"Found it?"
Xu Qin was sweating on her forehead. She had finally met a savior who might know how to fix it, but what on earth did this filter look like?
Chen Cheng nodded and returned to the boiler to check the latch of the filter screen.
Ignoring the still bewildered Xu Qin, he went to find a wrench in the pile of clutter.
Then, with quick, efficient movements, he replaced the filter screen at the air outlet and reinstalled it.
Unable to help, Xu Qin stood by, watching with wide, round eyes.
Her heart, however, was in turmoil.
This person was indeed quite different from the others introduced by Fu Wenyin.
Those playboys would probably just make a phone call to summon someone; if they had to do it themselves, they would likely be clueless.
Chen Cheng turned on the gas valve and pressed the heating switch again.
Xu Qin finally withdrew her shocked gaze and asked in disbelief, "Is it fixed already?"
Chen Cheng nodded faintly. "Yes, the filter had been used for too long and got clogged."
Although it was called a filter screen, the level of the one in Xu Qin's home could filter out even aerogels and dust. In reality, the mesh was extremely fine, making it very easy to clog.
Xu Qin smiled awkwardly. "I'm really sorry for the trouble."
"Let's go back up."
Chen Cheng nodded and brought the replaced filter screen up with him.
Walking up the narrow basement stairs, Xu Qin suddenly turned back to look at Chen Cheng. "Did you book a hotel?"
"If not, you can stay here for the night."
Chen Cheng paused, a smile curling the corners of his mouth. "Aren't you afraid I'll turn into a big bad wolf at night?"
As soon as these words were spoken, the atmosphere between the two, who were already standing quite close, suddenly became ambiguous.
A flush of red rose on Xu Qin's fair, pretty face. Feeling a bit embarrassed and shyly annoyed, she said:
"What are you thinking? This place is really small, probably not even as big as a county town back home. It's too late, and it's hard to find a place to stay. You don't have a car, and I'm afraid you'll freeze to death out there."
Watching her explain with a flushed face, Chen Cheng inexplicably found Sister Porridge to be quite cute.
He nodded, a smile on his lips, his tone somewhat flirtatious. "Then thank you for taking me in~"
Chen Cheng had gradually figured out how to interact with Xu Qin.
She was essentially an adopted version of Guan Juer. Both had been trained by their mothers to be ladies, yet both craved wildness.
That was why she was attracted to rascals with a roguish air.
The Chen Cheng she met today was quite different from all her previous blind dates.
Xu Qin's heart didn't have as much resistance.
Moreover, Chen Cheng had solved her heating problem.
In a cold region, the heating problem was no less than saving her life.
Xu Qin tilted her chin and smiled. "No need to thank me. You helping me fix the heating really saved my life."
"You don't know, I've been sleeping on the sofa by the fireplace for the past two days. I was just waiting for my day off to call someone to fix the heating."
Chen Cheng's mouth twitched. Look at how frozen the poor child was.
The two went upstairs and sat around the fireplace Xu Qin had just lit to warm themselves.
After staying in the room for a while, they felt it was cold inside too.
Xu Qin opened the boxes to check the things the Meng Family had brought her while chatting with Chen Cheng.
