Mr. Wei didn't feel any shame or anger about being thrown out of the elevator by Chen Cheng.
At least on the surface.
He walked out of the Shengxuan lobby side by side with Wei Guoqiang.
Wei Guoqiang looked back at the elevator hall and asked Mr. Wei, "What is the relationship between this Chen Cheng and Andy?"
"Um..." Mr. Wei fell silent; he was a bit unsure about this himself.
In his impression, Chen Cheng and Andy were indeed quite close.
But he had also seen Chen Cheng walking arm-in-arm and holding hands with Guan Juer.
It wasn't that he hadn't considered the possibility of two women serving one husband, but he felt that Andy certainly wasn't the type of woman who would tolerate such a thing.
Mr. Wei considered it for a moment and said, "He, Andy, and Tan Zongming used to work together on Wall Street."
"This Chairman Chen is becoming more and more influential in the industry; it's no secret anymore."
"Professor Wei didn't know?"
A hint of embarrassment flashed across Wei Guoqiang's face. "I'm getting old and don't pay much attention to the business world anymore."
"Professor Wei, you're joking," Mr. Wei said with a sycophantic smile. "You are a senior. I still have much to learn from you."
"However, this kid is Ouyang's student," Wei Guoqiang smiled.
"Ouyang?" Mr. Wei raised an eyebrow. "This person is...?"
"Ouyang Jin, a professor at the School of Economics at Jiaotong University. Her husband was originally the president of the Shanghai branch of Shenmao Bank, but... he died in a car accident." Wei Guoqiang had a warm smile on his face, as if he were introducing an old friend.
"Oh~" Mr. Wei realized and immediately knew who he was talking about.
He quickly connected the relationships between the various people in his mind and smiled. "Then this Professor Ouyang is also a colleague of yours?"
Wei Guoqiang curled his lip. "Um... sort of."
Seeing his car arrive, Wei Guoqiang turned to Mr. Wei. "CEO Wei, thank you again for today."
"I have other things to attend to, so I'll be going now."
"Some other day, come to my place for tea. A friend gave me some high-quality Dongding Oolong; we can chat while we drink."
A hint of suspicion flashed in Mr. Wei's eyes, but his face wore a bright smile. "Then I won't keep you."
"When I'm free, I'll definitely come over to try it."
The two exchanged a few more pleasantries before Wei Guoqiang got into his car and left.
Mr. Wei watched the car disappear, then looked back at the elevator hall. Thinking of Chen Cheng's words, he frowned.
That guy Chen knows about the relationship between Wei Guoqiang and Andy but didn't say anything. What does he mean?
Mr. Wei pondered for a few seconds, his expression suddenly changing as he looked at the distant traffic.
He came to an unexpected conclusion: "Is there something wrong with this old man...?"
"So Chen clearly found Andy's biological father but didn't tell her?"
"..."
Chen Cheng went upstairs and headed straight into Andy's office.
"Chairman Chen, you're here," Andy's secretary stood up to greet him as soon as she saw him.
Chen Cheng nodded. "Mm-hmm."
He glanced at Andy, who was hiding on the floor of her conference room, and said to her secretary, "Secretary Lin, go wait outside for a while and don't let anyone else in."
The layout of Andy's office was similar to Chen Cheng's.
On the outside was the secretary's desk; inside were a private conference room, a pantry area, and a lounge sofa.
Secretary Lin looked at Andy, who was sitting on the floor looking lost, and nodded. "Alright, Chairman Chen."
Chen Cheng smiled and walked toward the conference room.
He reached out and knocked on the glass door.
Andy turned her head and saw it was Chen Cheng. She propped herself up and unlocked the door.
Chen Cheng walked in and sat down next to Andy, leaning against the wall side by side with her.
They just sat there quietly, and he didn't speak for a long time.
Because Andy's emotions didn't seem to be so bad that they were out of control.
"Aren't you going to ask me anything?" After a long while, Andy shifted her body and rested her head on Chen Cheng's lap.
"Hmm," Chen Cheng thought for a moment. "Actually..."
Andy frowned. "You... you knew about... Wei Guoqiang all along?"
Chen Cheng nodded slightly and made up a lie on the spot: "Yeah. Not long after I brought Xiao Ming back, I found Wei Guoqiang."
"Then why didn't you tell me?" Andy's mind was a mess, and she clearly hadn't quite processed everything.
Chen Cheng raised an eyebrow and didn't answer her directly.
"So, what did Wei Guoqiang say to you?"
Andy: "He..."
"He seemed to be avoiding the main point... um... he kept telling me about my grandfather."
"Talking about the inconveniences and hardships his landlord family brought him."
"..."
Andy recounted everything Wei Guoqiang had told her to Chen Cheng from beginning to end.
Even though Chen Cheng already knew the plot, he still listened to her account seriously.
"First, I'll raise a question."
"Huh? A question?" Andy was startled. "Go ahead."
"A painter, a traditional Chinese painter at that, learning color coordination from a madwoman who is highly skilled at paper cutting?"
"Don't you think that sentence is very strange?"
"Paper cutting is an art of bold reds and greens."
"This..." Andy was stunned. Her attention had been entirely focused on the word 'mad' and the mental illness.
"So..." Andy frowned. "He was lying?"
"Yeah," Chen Cheng nodded. "Obviously."
Chen Cheng smiled. "Then shall we speculate on the real situation?"
"Okay," Andy agreed with a nod.
Chen Cheng: "Judging by the timeline, your grandfather probably met your grandmother between 1950 and 1955."
"During this period, the country was undergoing the Three Great Transformations and Land Reform. It was the time when the struggle against landlords was most intense and the most painful period for the old landlord class."
"At that time, no one was willing to have much to do with people like them."
"This led to difficulties in making friends. A young man in his prime, with no friends and no family, how... he would be..."
"But then a beautiful... madwoman from out of town, fleeing a famine, happened to arrive in the village."
"..."
Chen Cheng didn't continue. Andy's brow furrowed. "So he was actually driven by lust?"
"He approached Grandmother on his own initiative?"
Chen Cheng didn't rush to answer. He smiled and said, "Andy, first of all, we have to be clear about one thing. The most common reason a man pursues a woman is actually lust—that is, a physiological impulse."
"This is normal. We can't use this to judge your grandfather's character."
A playful smile appeared at the corner of Andy's mouth. "So, were you also driven by lust when it came to me?"
Chen Cheng nodded noncommittally. "Of course."
"Honey, you have to understand that physiological attraction is the most fundamental expression of human emotion and feeling toward the opposite sex."
"Soul compatibility and such are actually the icing on the cake, a higher pursuit."
Andy gave him a rare eye-roll. "Twisted logic!"
