All of this, seen through Dai Xi's eyes, left a bitter taste in her mouth.
She pursed her lips, and while pretending to order, she lifted her leg under the table and lightly kicked Chen Cheng's foot.
Chen Cheng felt her little maneuver and continued chatting with Dai Yin, his 'mother-in-law' by convenience, as if nothing had happened.
"I heard from Nansun that Teacher Chen teaches economics at the university?"
"..."
The two of them chatted about school matters in a casual, uninspired way for a while.
Jiang Nansun ate her food while offering a conciliatory smile.
Dai Xi, however, was playing a game of brinkmanship with Chen Cheng. Even though her silk-stockinged foot was clamped between Chen Cheng's legs, she still wouldn't sit still, inching her way up bit by bit.
The topic of school ended, and a brief silence fell. Dai Yin blinked, composed her thoughts, and turned to ask Chen Cheng:
"Xiao Cheng, do you think parents getting a divorce has a big impact on the child?"
Chen Cheng looked up and met her gaze. "Auntie, are you asking me what I think about you and Uncle Jiang getting a divorce?"
Dai Yin smiled awkwardly.
Chen Cheng maintained a smile throughout. "Auntie, I support your decision."
"Divorce is a matter of your personal marital freedom; it is a right granted by the Constitution, and no one has the authority to interfere with it."
Across the table, Dai Xi's eyes widened. That's not what you said before.
You were even angry with me about it.
Is it really okay for you to flip your attitude faster than turning a page?
Chen Cheng continued, "As for the impact on Nansun, she is an adult, and a university student about to graduate with a master's degree."
He turned to look at Jiang Nansun. "I believe she understands you too."
"After all, marriage is only one part of life."
"You are still young, and you have plenty of time to pursue beautiful things."
Jiang Nansun nodded quickly, making her stance clear. "Of course, I support Mom getting a divorce."
She didn't notice the flicker of displeasure on Chen Cheng's face, as she was still exchanging sympathetic glances with her mother, Dai Yin.
Hearing Chen Cheng say this, Dai Yin seemed to heave a sigh of relief.
She knew that some families were very sensitive about the bride's parents being divorced.
A smile appeared on Dai Yin's face as she raised her glass to Chen Cheng. "Thank you for your understanding, Xiao Cheng."
Chen Cheng put on a warm smile and clinked his glass against Dai Yin's.
Jiang Nansun took the opportunity to invite Dai Xi to join in. "Auntie, let's have a drink together."
Dai Xi's face was a bit flushed at this moment. "Oh..." she murmured, snapping out of her daze only when Jiang Nansun called her, then she picked up her glass and tried to appear composed.
They clinked glasses, took a sip, and set them down. Jiang Nansun cast a suspicious glance at the flushed Dai Xi.
"Auntie, what's wrong? Why is your face so red?"
"Are you drunk?"
Caught by her niece, Dai Xi's face turned even redder. She hurriedly waved her hand, feeling very awkward. "No, no," she smiled, "maybe it's just a bit hot."
"Oh," Jiang Nansun said, turning to the waiting waiter to instruct, "Hello, could you please turn the air conditioning down a bit?"
Seeing no one was paying attention, Dai Xi shot a fierce glare at Chen Cheng.
This bastard was just too unscrupulous.
He even kept clinking glasses with Dai Yin and Jiang Nansun from time to time while chatting casually.
"I heard from Nansun that you and your sister are going to Italy, Auntie?"
"Yes," Dai Yin nodded, turning to look at Dai Xi with a smile. "Dai Xi asked me to go to Italy to clear my head and stay for a while."
Chen Cheng nodded. "Italy is indeed very nice. The local customs, history, and architecture all have a unique charm."
"You just need to watch out for pickpockets when you're out and about."
"Public safety in Europe isn't very good these days."
Dai Yin was very pleased. "Right, I'll keep that in mind."
"..."
Just like that, chatting away, an hour and a half passed before the meal was finished.
Tomorrow, Dai Yin would be leaving with Dai Xi.
On the surface, her relationship with Chen Cheng had not been exposed, and Jiang Nansun was still staying at the hotel with Dai Yin.
After divorcing Jiang Pengfei, Dai Yin had packed up everything she could take and moved to the hotel to stay with Dai Xi.
"Goodbye, Teacher Chen~"
Chen Cheng waved with a smile, nodded, and gave Dai Xi a look that held a deeper meaning.
The three of them walked Chen Cheng to the elevator. Watching him enter, they then pressed the elevator button to go back up.
Jiang Nansun squeezed between the two of them, linking arms with both, and turned to look at Dai Xi, who had a very strange expression.
"Auntie, what's wrong?"
"You didn't really say much during dinner."
Dai Xi forced a smile. "Oh, it's nothing. He's an excellent person, I had nothing to ask, so I just watched you two chat."
As she spoke, Dai Xi pressed her poetic legs together.
Inside, she was screaming, why won't this damn elevator come down?
She was anxious to get back to her room and take a shower.
If it weren't winter, and she weren't wearing pantyhose that were quite absorbent, she would have been afraid of giving herself away.
Jiang Nansun had a sudden realization. "Oh, I see," she said, her eyebrows arching as she asked with hopeful anticipation:
"Then what does Auntie think of Teacher Chen?"
"Uh..."
Dai Xi was losing her composure. You call him Teacher, but he really does teach me lessons. The kind where if you don't listen, he spanks you.
Dai Xi was someone who had been through plenty of storms; her emotional control was excellent. She smiled and nodded. "A very impressive young man."
"His looks, height, physique, education, and even his wealth are all impeccable."
Seeing Dai Xi praise him so much, Jiang Nansun was even happier.
"Is he really that good?"
Dai Yin rolled her eyes at her. "Your eyes are practically glued to Xiao Cheng, why are you still asking your aunt?"
"Hehe~" Jiang Nansun smiled awkwardly. "I just want to get your approval."
Dai Yin huffed in annoyance. She hadn't expected her own daughter to have a day where she would be love-struck.
Thinking about it, she waved her hand again. "Forget it, at least he's better than Zhang Anren, who disappears whenever there's the slightest bit of trouble."
"Uh~" Jiang Nansun felt a bit awkward. She had only mentioned they broke up and hadn't told her family the specific details.
She certainly hadn't mentioned that Zhang Anren had cheated and she had just gone along with the flow...
Now, the Jiang Family still thought it was the Jiang Family's debts that had scared Zhang Anren away.
"Why bring him up?" Jiang Nansun muttered softly.
Dai Xi looked at her innocent and carefree face, and felt incredibly awkward.
On one side was her niece, whom she treated like her own daughter; on the other was a man who knew her inside and out, and whom she knew quite intimately.
As soon as Dai Xi pushed aside her primal physiological desires, she began to feel conflicted.
How exactly should she handle the relationship with her niece and... him?
Dai Xi really didn't want to acknowledge the words "niece's boyfriend," deliberately avoiding the thought.
The elevator reached their floor, and the group entered Dai Xi's room, where Dai Xi hurried straight into the bathroom.
"Auntie, what's wrong?"
Jiang Nansun, linking arms with Dai Yin, muttered as she watched Dai Xi's retreating figure.
Dai Yin had no mind to worry about Dai Xi; she pulled Jiang Nansun to sit on the sofa and began to question her.
