The following afternoon, Chen Cheng met with Qin Shi.
She was dressed in a color-blocked floral dress, not as form-fitting as her gown from last time, and her makeup wasn't as exquisite as it had been at the previous banquet. The vibe was significantly toned down.
"Is this the character profile you made for me?" Chen Cheng looked at the documents in his hand, frowning. "I have a son?"
Qin Shi nodded nonchalantly. "Yeah, he's two and a half, an Aries, blood type AB."
Eleven, who was driving, almost couldn't hold back a laugh. So, even a scumbag could have the tables turned on him one day.
Karma really does catch up to everyone.
Having seen so many of her scumbag boss's shady maneuvers, Eleven had become somewhat numb to them.
Brother Sheng had taught her a phrase: "Respect the fate of others."
The same went for the women the boss messed around with; it was best not to meddle.
As she spoke, Qin Shi smiled at Chen Cheng. "His idol is Nezha."
Chen Cheng looked at her suspiciously. Was Qin Shi perhaps a hater?
"Married for two years, and we have a two-and-a-half-year-old son?"
A smile played on Qin Shi's lips. "Isn't a shotgun marriage normal?"
"Regardless of whether there are any loopholes, it's the most polished version we have right now."
Chen Cheng curled his lip and sized up Qin Shi. "You really are a compulsive liar, huh."
Qin Shi pouted, not expecting Chen Cheng to be so blunt. "I have no choice; it's all for work."
"As a divorce lawyer, if you're single, clients might not even want to talk to you; they'd be wary that you'd act like a vixen and seduce their husbands."
"When fighting for custody, you have to empathize with the client from the perspective of a mother."
"Otherwise, when the client is emotionally unstable, it's hard for them to trust us."
Chen Cheng raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "So, when you put it that way, you've sacrificed quite a lot for your work."
Qin Shi could hear the sarcasm in Chen Cheng's voice and awkwardly continued to explain, "It's not really a sacrifice; just trying to make a living."
"Heh heh."
Chen Cheng rolled his eyes at her; he didn't believe a word of it now. "So, in order to make a living, you dragged my reputation into this?"
"..."
Chen Cheng gave up on expecting a reasonable explanation from her and continued to ask:
"Don't you have any single lawyers in your family law department?"
"Uh..." Qin Shi couldn't hold it together. There actually was one, and they were quite good—their performance was no worse than hers.
After chatting for a while, Qin Shi spent a long time briefing him on the interpersonal relationships at their law firm, terrified that he would say something wrong tonight and blow their cover.
Chen Cheng didn't listen carefully; he was looking down at the stock market. Fang Sijin, that money-grubber, was very efficient.
She had gone out early in the morning to schedule taxes, opened a stock account, set aside enough money for taxes, and transferred 5 million in.
In less than two hours on the road, Chen Cheng had used all of Fang Sijin's money to buy 2351 and 0598. These were stocks he had traded before his rebirth, and the memories were still fresh.
If nothing went wrong, after the new year, Fang Sijin would be a little rich woman.
He hadn't touched those two with his own money; the market cap was too small to accommodate a powerful outsider like him.
"Are you Ms. Qin Shi and Mr. Chen Cheng from Ximei PR?"
Upon arriving at the destination, the hotel receptionist checked their identities against the invitation.
Chen Cheng frowned. Ximei PR?
It was only then that he remembered Qin Shi had an ex-boyfriend.
And the ex-boyfriend was the famous 'scumbag' character actor, Brother Huan Shan.
And the ex-boyfriend's current girlfriend was Qin Shi's subordinate, as well as the young lady of this Ximei PR, Wu Fei.
Qin Shi nodded and asked, "Has President Lan arrived?"
"Oh, she has arrived. The banquet officially begins at 6:30. The banquet hall is on the second floor of the resort. The two of you can return to your rooms to rest for a while, or you can take a walk around our resort."
Chen Cheng took the room key card from the receptionist. "Thank you."
Qin Shi glanced around, reached out to take Chen Cheng's arm, and walked toward the elevator lobby.
Feeling the softness, Scum Cheng didn't refuse. He chuckled and said, "Where do all these strange banquets of yours come from?"
"And what's with the 'no entry without a partner' rule?"
"Are you sure this is a proper banquet? It's not some kind of wild party, is it?"
Qin Shi was shocked and pulled on Chen Cheng, whispering, "Keep your voice down, don't let anyone hear you."
"The host of the banquet is the president of the Women Entrepreneurs Association."
Chen Cheng curled his lip and didn't argue with her.
Scum Cheng clearly didn't think much of the so-called Women Entrepreneurs Association.
In his eyes, only people with nothing better to do and no business would hold these boring banquets every day; people running companies normally were too busy to manage.
As soon as they entered the room, Qin Shi laid the huge suitcase she was holding on the floor and opened it.
She took out her gown and makeup bag and started working.
Chen Cheng smiled, flopped onto the bed, and watched her change.
"Hey, you should change too. In that black suitcase, I brought clothes for you." Seeing him unmoved, Qin Shi got a little anxious and waved her hand at him.
Chen Cheng shook his head. "No rush. Let me finish watching the beauty change first."
"You!" Qin Shi was suddenly embarrassed and annoyed.
Chen Cheng's lips curled up slightly as he looked at his watch. "It's 5:30 now; you have one hour left."
Qin Shi took a deep breath to calm herself, turned her head, and resumed her facial renovation project.
Chen Cheng looked at the banquet brochure, his lips curling up slightly.
To his surprise, the host of the event was a peer who traded futures.
Chen Cheng hadn't watched the whole show, only remembering that this person eventually ran away.
It seemed they were not only peers but also fellow scammers.
"Hey, Big Brother, come help me out."
Chen Cheng looked up at Qin Shi. It had to be said, she was a natural bombshell.
By now, Qin Shi had changed into a tight, low-cut gown, her curves captivating.
Seeing him unmoved, Qin Shi raised her hand and pointed to her back.
"The zipper."
Chen Cheng got up and walked over; as he got close, he smelled a faint scent of perfume.
Seeing Chen Cheng approach, Qin Shi turned around on her own, leaving her back exposed to him.
Chen Cheng raised his hand to find the zipper, his fingers inevitably making contact with Qin Shi's bare back.
Her dress was designed that way—low at both the front and back, revealing her chest in the front and her back in the back.
The moment they made contact, Qin Shi trembled involuntarily.
After zipping it up, Qin Shi turned back. "Big Brother, aren't you going to change?"
Chen Cheng looked down at the alluring cleavage and said teasingly, "Why aren't you calling me 'Brother' anymore? I quite liked it when you called me 'Brother'."
Qin Shi's face instantly turned bright red. She could say those words herself, but hearing him bring it up was embarrassing.
Qin Shi pleaded, "Oh, hurry up and change. There's no time left."
Chen Cheng didn't intend to let her off the hook and spread his arms. "Qin Shi, dress me!"
"You!" Qin Shi was suddenly furious, gritting her teeth.
"Hurry up, are you changing it or not?" Chen Cheng urged.
Qin Shi, in her anger, shoved Chen Cheng away. Chen Cheng thought she was going to leave, but instead, he saw her bend over and open the black suitcase placed by the door.
Scum Cheng raised an eyebrow. Sigh, I really am bad.
Chen Cheng reached up, pulled off his T-shirt, and opened his arms, waiting for Qin Shi.
When Qin Shi turned around, she saw Scum Cheng facing her with his upper body bare.
Those pecs, abs, and V-line—gulp—Qin Shi swallowed involuntarily.
It took a long while for Qin Shi to steady her emotions and walk over.
